A Hot Tub Can Be the Key to Health and Wellness

When I was a teenager, the parents of some good friends bought a hot tub. The family was popular anyway, but after their hot tub was installed, everyone came up with reasons to drop in on them. After sports or working out at the gym, the hot tub was a welcome relief to our aches and pains. The one that they had was an enclosed model, so it didn’t matter what type of weather or what season it was; the hot tub was always a good place to go. Not only that, but they also let us raid their refrigerator, which meant that any excuse to go to their house was a pretty good one.

That was a long time ago, and hot tubs have come a long way. Studies have shown that the health benefits of using a hot tub go a lot further than just relaxing tired muscles. A paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that those with Type-II diabetes who soaked in a hot tub on a regular basis demonstrated a definable reduction in blood sugar. They also slept better, and felt that they were healthier than prior to using hot tubs. According to the Arthritis Foundation, the heat and buoyancy provided by a hot tub are very helpful in providing relief for stiffness and arthritis pain. The support provided by the water in the tub eases the stress of joints and muscles, allowing for less restricted movement.

We recently moved into a brand-new home, and I have been considering the purchase of a hot tub. The summers here are pretty hot and our evenings can get pretty cool, especially in the winter, so having a nice, climate-controlled hot tub sounds just right. I’m just lining up my good reasons before discussing a purchase with my wife, since I know that she is going to want to have some solid justification before we make a purchase of that kind. I am sure it will not take much to convince her that a hot tub is the right thing for our family. I have the perfect spot for it, just off of the master bedroom in the back yard, and since my children are still in elementary school, I do not have to worry about being constantly raided by their friends wanting to eat my food and use my hot tub. I have my own friends for that.
