ZenHabits is running an article called 6 Steps to lose the Buddaha (Belly). They stress that just making your abs stronger (ie doing crunches) won’t yield a nice stomach. After all, if your muscles are tone but covered by fat you won’t see any muscles anyway.

Weight Loss Tips are Useless

Sorry to disappoint but there is no magic trick to good health, it involves work. Building healthy habits related to diet will do more towards your health than that 8 minute abs video and you will not only look better but feel better too.

That said, the article does provide good info about a smart diet and types of exercises that will actually help get fat off your mid-section. When you get your body fat to a healthy level your 6-pack will naturally appear.

I would only add one addendum to ZenHabit’s article and that is the power of habits. If you get into a good habit of running everyday, or eating better you will get to a point where not doing whatever your good habit is will be less desirable than actually doing it.
