Non Slip Stair Treads: Not Just for Old People

One of the worst injuries that I have ever sustained was during the summer when I was 11 or 12 years old. I was at my aunt and uncles home spending the day with my cousins in their swimming pool. I was asked to go get something or other from my cousin’s upstairs room.

My uncle had a beautiful home with earth tones and Mexican tiles that created a cozy, Native American ambiance about the home, and as I neared the top of the stair case, my still damp feet slipped on the slick tiles and I tumbled halfway down the stairs before getting my leg caught in the supports of the rails.

The next week, my aunt had non slip stair treads installed to prevent this from happening again. She later confessed to me that she would have installed them earlier, but she was afraid that rubber stair treads would have detracted from the “natural beauty” of her home. Luckily, she found some in an earthy brown color that matched her décor. Too bad she didn’t find them earlier - my leg would have thanked her.
