New Old Cars
Last weekend my husband brought home a new car. Well, an old car that’s new to him. The funny thing is he already had this car. My husband bought a black 1996 VW Golf (Roxanne) eight years ago and drove it into the ground.
Last spring the transmission went out and I knew old Roxy was gone for good, but my poor husband couldn’t accept this until the guy at his Edison Park auto repair shop went over the numbers with him of what it would cost to replace the transmission (which was significantly more than the twelve year old car was worth). He was sympathetic, I think he has a thing for Volkswagens too.
For the last three months my husband has been scouring the classified ads, ebay, craigslist, and everyplace he could think of to find another VW Golf. I suggested that he might have better luck finding a new car if he was willing to broaden his horizons and search outside of Volkswagens. He acknowledged that was true, but couldn’t bring himself to buy anything else.
After months of searching he finally found a black VW Golf. It’s like the ghost that haunted our driveway never really left, and my husband can’t wait to take it in to his Edison Park auto repair guy to get it looked over and serviced. I think the Edison Park auto repair shop is one of the main reasons my husband needed to get another VW. He can’t be bothered finding another Edison Park auto repair shop he can trust.
