Illinois Real Estate by Region

If you are looking for Illinois real estate, chances are that most of your options lie in or around Chicago because the city’s strong economy and active port have drawn about two-thirds of the state’s population lives in the northeast corner of Illinois. There is a lot to see and do in Chicago, but other areas in the state might appeal to your tastes too.

Central Illinois, which is sometimes called the heart of the state, is predominantly made up of rich plains and farm lands with mid-sized towns and cities. If you aren’t used to the bustle of a large city like Chicago, the central or southern parts of the state might suit you better. If you are trying to choose between central and southern Illinois, keep in mind that the bottom section of the state has a warmer climate, but its topography is a little more rugged too. If you are used to open stretches, it might make you feel a little more claustrophobic.

Also, if you are new to the area when you look for Illinois real estate, I would highly recommend having someone show you around. A Realtor would probably have the most up-to-date information on the housing market and he or she could save you a lot of time by taking you exactly where you need to go too.
